Intro: DJ Crazy Toones sits down with The Music Flame.com to discuss the state of the mixtape game and westcoast hip hop.

(TMF) When did you start mixing and getting into the Dj scene?

(Toones) 1984 and professionaly in 1989 with W.C and Low Profile.

(TMF) What are your thoughts on the mixtape scene these days.

(Toones) I think its wack you got people calling incomplete demos mixtapes, that aint what a mixtape is if you want to promote yourself that's cool but don't call it a mixtape, where's the cutting and scratching, just a bunch of songs with a Dj yelling over them aint a mixtape.
(TMF) You have a mixtape out "The CT Experience" tell me about that.

(Toones) I used to do real cassette mixtapes between 89-96. I did the CT Experience in 2006 so it was like 10 years since my last mixtape.

(TMF) A lot of DJ's are moving from vinyl and jumping into mp3 mixing, what are your thoughts on this transition with the new technology on the scene 4 track mixing has become out dated.

(Toones) I think its dope it would have saved my moms a lot of money I wish we could have had pro tools and serato back in the day it would have been a lot easier back then so I say whaterver works for you its all good.

(TMF) What advice do you have for anybody trying to get in this business.

(Toones) Go hard don't wait for handouts do something that's going to make you standout be different don't just get on a echo box and start yelling over the song because that's what DJ clue or Crazy Toones does, get yourself known in your own hood if they don't know you why should I know you.

(TMF) For the past few years it seems like the DJ scene is making a strong comeback what do you think the reason for this has been?

(Toones) I think it has always been here you have a lot of mainstream kids from the suburbs into it now, so you see it in gap commercials and everywhere but I feel like it has never left.

(TMF) Not only are you a DJ but you are a westcoast ambassador, there doesn't seem to be a lot of unity on the westcoast why aren't artists working together to re establish the dominance the westcoast displayed in the 90's.

(Toones) I feel like the westcoast biggest problem is that we don't have a voice we don't get a fair shot because our radio stations Except for Julio G, 100.3 the beat is now a R&B station and Power 106 only gives us 2 to 3 hours per week so the west has no outlet.

(TMF) What kinda energy does the Dj bring to to a live performance?

(Toones) It depends on the Artist and what they want on their show like Snoop's show you'll see Battlecat & Dj Jam doing there thing just like when I'm with Ice Cube I'm out there doing my thing trying to get the crowd crackin.

(TMF) What current projects are you working on?

(Toones) W.C. Guilty by affiliation!!!
Coming this summer we got about 7 joints so far that we are real happy with.

(TMF) When low profile was a group wasn't Alladin the Dj then? What role did you play back then?

(Toones) I've always been like the brain of that group when it came to picking the records and telling Alladin what parts to cut because Alladin was like the hardest nigga back then on the tables.

(TMF) There's a lot of different rappers in the business claiming to be the kings of there respective regions do you think this good for hip hop?

(Toones) Hip hop has always been about bragging rights all the way back when that nigga said "I got a color tv so I can see the Knicks play basketball" That nigga didn't have a color tv its all good though I never heard a nigga come out and say he's the wackest nigga in the game even though he might be.

(TMF) Record sales have been at an alltime low recently what do you think can be done to fix this problem?

(Toones) I'm not sure I think we gotta start cutting sone side deals with these Mp3 companies so we can see a cut of these
99 cent downloads.

(TMF) Where can someone get the CT experience mixtape?

(Toones) You gotta be in the streets to get that because I was dealing with a wack ass distributor and I got homies saying the never got the mixtape and I've never seen a penny from it. But be on the lookout for the Ghetto files Dvd its based on the Cd coming soon.
